As a payment and activation facilities provider, we need a certain amount of information to be able to deliver services to you safely and legally.
While we are not a financial institution, we do handle transactional interactions between multiple parties. Many of our locations also offer overnight stays. Both of these activities increase the amount of information we are obliged to gather to identify you as our customer.
This page addresses why we collect the data we do, and how we use it.
Please note all data is handled in accordance with our privacy policy.
First and last name
We need to know what to call you! Also during emergency/incident management we need your name for safety reasons. We are required by law to know the name of the person (or main contact of a group) staying overnight on any of our camp grounds.
Email address
This is our primary means of contacting you, as well as the unique log in username for you to access our system. We will use this address to send you payment receipts, transactional and account alerts, and to reset your password on request.
In addition, but only if you indicated this preference, we may occasionally send you marketing offers and updates we think you might be interested in.
Mobile phone
We will use this if we need to contact you urgently, or need your input on any matter not easily dealt with via email. We do not use any automatic SMS messaging, so you will not receive these from us.
Vehicle registration
Having your vehicle registration helps us monitor the vehicles present at our locations, especially overnight. Unauthorised vehicles create safety and compliance issues. Also, we are now installing automatic number plate readers at the entry to camp grounds. If your plate is registered on your profile, we'll be able to automatically open the gate for you! Too easy.
Nationality and date of birth
This information is used in several ways:
- Periodic government reporting
The NZ government occasionally conducts visitor information surveys across all accommodation providers, to guide infrastructure and marketing developments. We choose to participate in this, and this includes supply of summarised demographics. - Systems improvement
We are able to improve our services based on demand, to better meet the needs of certain groups. For example, providing signage and technical solutions in multiple languages. - Anti money laundering / Know your customer
As we handle transactional information, we choose to strengthen our relationship with you by gaining a stronger sense of your identity. This ensures our platform remains safe and secure for all stakeholders.
Physical address
This is only collected if you order goods by mail order, such as a Penny key. It is only used for fulfilment of your order.
Credit/payment card
We do not store your payment card information. Instead, we store a payment token which can only be used for transactions between your card and our account. This token is stored by a third party payments provider, with full PCI-DSS level 1 compliance. You can delete this token at any time via your dashboard. We store the token simply to make frequent top ups easier for you.
